چکیده

In a previous publication (l), evidence was presented indicating that a major pathway of epinephrine metabolism involved cleavage of the molecule at some point between the P-carbon and the methyl carbon. The presence of ether-soluble substances in urine suggested that methylamine was split off, at least to some extent. A minimum of five urinary metabolites of epinephrine has been revealed by paper chromatography (2). The interpretation of these data, however, was complicated by the use of dl-epinephrine, employed because of the unavailability of the natural 1 isomer possessing adequate radioactivity. There was thus no assurance that some of these observations were not attributable to the unnatural d isomer and hence unrelated to the metabolism of physiological epinephrine. Recently we have synthesized methyl-Cl*-dl-epinephrine of higher specific activity and prepared its 1 isomer as well as the 1 isomer of /3-C’*-epinephrine. Using the two types of radioactive l-epinephrine we have confirmed previously reported metabolic studies and have found no observable differences in the fates of I-epinephrine and dl-epinephrine in the rat. Evidence is also presented to demonstrate that methylamine is split from epinephrine.

Hemodynamic Effect of 2% Lidocaine with 1:80,000 Epinephrine Infiltration in Maxillofacial Surgeries under General Anesthesia

Introduction: Epinephrine-containing lidocaine is the most used anestheic drug in dentistry. The aim of this study was to investigate the hemodynamic changes following local infiltration of 2%lidocaine with 1:80,000 epinephrine in subjects undergoing orthognatic surgery under general anesthesia. Methods: Twenty five patients without any systemic disease participated. After general anesthesia, t...

Effect of epinephrine and cortisol on fasting-induced ghrelin secretion in male rats fed different levels of their energy requirement

Introduction: ghrelin is a potent orexigenic agent in rodents and humans. Some studies have shown that ghrelin participates in the adaptive response to weight loss and plasma concentration of ghrelin rises with dieting. On the other hand, weight loss and fasting is accompanied by increased levels of epinephrine and cortisol. In this study, we investigated the effects of epinephrine and corti...

Hemodynamic Charactristics Comparing 2% Lidocaine With Epinephrine and Citanest 3% With Felypressin in Lower Third Molar Surgery

Introduction: Monitoring the patient’s status is necessary during the surgical extraction of teeth, especially when the procedure is traumatic or the patient has psychological problems. Stress induced by pain during dental treatments can result in the secretion of endogenous catecholamines which in turn increases hemodynamic changes. The present study aimed to compare hemodynamic changes ...

The effect of hyperglycemic-glycogenolytic factor on fat metabolism of liver.

It is known that hyperglycemic-glycogenolytic factor (HGF) and epinephrine accelerate glycogenolysis in the liver. The studies of Sutherland and Cori (1) show that they act alike on the formation of glucose from glycogen in liver slices. Fat metabolism is also affected by these hormones. For example Blixenkrone-M@ller (2) observed that epinephrine causes an increase in the production of acetoac...
